The crawl space is one of the most neglected areas of the home. Every day we find insulation that has been pulled down and contaminated with rodent droppings, urine, food caches, nesting materials and even rodent corpses. Ducting is chewed and nested in, vapor barriers are improperly set down or non-existent, and excessive moisture has led to mold and rotting wood. Vents are improperly installed or even blocked completely.
Clean Crawls will go in and remove it all. We take out everything that could degrade the energy efficiency & air quality of your home - from feces to fungi. After we clean up the space, we seal up holes where rodents or other animals could access your crawl space in the future. We take all necessary precautions to ensure the inside and outside of your home remain a clean, healthy environment from the time we arrive to the time we leave.
We understand that most homeowners don’t enjoy going into their crawl space. We do!
Crawlspace insulation prevents the loss of heat in the winter and prevents hot air in summer from entering your home by resisting heat flow. Heat flow is a critical element in your energy usage. Heat naturally moves from warm places to colder places.
In the Winter, the heat produced by your heating system moves naturally to the unheated spaces such as attics, garages, basements and crawlspaces - or directly outdoors. To make up for this loss, your homes' heating system needs to run more often to keep a constant indoor temperature. A well-insulated crawlspace will prevent heat loss and keep your floors warm.
In the Summer, heat will flow into your home, making your air conditioner work harder to keep the inside cool. Crawlspace insulation will help keep that heat out and keep your energy bills in check.
For crawlspaces, we typically install unfaced fiberglass batts, but there are other insulation options such as cotton batts or spray foam. It's also important to have a properly installed vapor barrier, which we will custom cut and fit to your crawlspace. A vapor barrier will prevent groundwater from creating moisture problems and mold in your crawlspace and in your insulation.
By installing the appropriate amount of insulation, heat transfer can be reduced, thereby saving you money on your utility bills.
Most utility companies will even offer you rebates for making insulation improvements to your home! For more information on available rebates visit our rebates page.
Crawlspace vapor barriers consist of a heavy plastic completely covering the floor of the crawlspace, which extends up the walls to the subfloor, thereby sealing the crawlspace and preventing mold, mildew and rot.
Crawlspace vapor barriers help in other ways:
Out of sight and out of mind is not sound practice when dealing with excessive moisture beneath your home. A crawlspace vapor barrier will give you confidence, knowing that your valuable home investment is protected.
